Ø8.25 mm HSS metal drill bit – Morse taper MT1
Product description and key benefits
The Ø8.25 mm twist drill with an MT1 Morse taper achieves higher hole accuracy than comparable straight-shank drills — direct mounting in the spindle shortens the torque transmission path and reduces radial runout. The tool is designed for stationary drilling machines: pillar machines, bench machines with an MT1 spindle, and box-column machines. The Ø8.25 Morse taper drill with a flute length of 75 mm is sufficient for holes in sheet metal and sections of typical shop thicknesses.
Key benefits of the Ø8.25 mm metal drill bit
- Self-holding Morse taper — MT1 transmits torque without slippage — essential for prolonged batch drilling
- HSS steel with a hardness of 63–65 HRC — the cutting edge retains its sharpness throughout the tool's service interval between sharpenings
- Flute length 75 mm — the maximum drilling depth allows typical shop sections and sheet metal to be machined in a single pass
- 118° point angle — self-centering in soft steels — eliminates the need for spot drilling on flat surfaces
- Diameter tolerance h8 — repeatable hole size in batch and single-part production
- Cutting edge reconditioning — repeated resharpening extends tool life — at l2 = 75 mm, the resharpening allowance is approximately 9 mm
The Ø8.25 Morse taper drill is suitable for series production of steel components, where repeatable hole dimensions determine assembly quality. With H12 tolerance at Ø8.250–Ø8.400 mm, holes require no additional machining for bolted connections. More precise fits are achieved with a finishing reamer.

Drilling blind holes
When drilling blind holes with the Ø8.25 mm drill, allow for the drill point cone — the usable depth is approximately 2 mm less than the set depth. For holes deeper than 24 mm (3×D), retract the drill every 12 mm to clear chips from the flutes.

Frequently asked questions about the Ø8.25 mm drill bit
The Ø8.25 mm NWKc drill bit with an MT1 taper mounts directly in the drill press spindle — the self-holding taper eliminates slipping under high cutting torque. A straight shank drill bit requires a drill chuck, which may not transmit the full torque during heavy use.
Yes — using an MT1→MT2 reduction sleeve. The sleeve ensures proper seating of the taper in the larger spindle socket. Use a correctly sized drill drift for removal.
The maximum drilling depth is the flute length l2 = 75 mm minus the drill point length (approximately 2 mm). The effective usable depth is therefore approximately 73 mm.
