The Ø10.2 mm NWKc twist drill is distinguished by its mounting method — the MT1 Morse taper eliminates the intermediate component between the tool and the spindle. This results in lower radial runout and improved repeatability of hole dimensions. The Ø10.2 Morse taper drill with a high-speed steel (HSS) cutting edge retains its working hardness up to 600°C, allowing drilling without the risk of tempering the cutting edge.

The Ø10.2 Morse taper drill is used in maintenance departments for repairing and reconditioning machine components. Standard H12 hole tolerance (Ø10.200–Ø10.380 mm) is sufficient for most through holes; close fits are achieved by reaming.

Drill sharpening
Sharpen the Ø10.2 mm drill bit on a tool grinder, maintaining the 118° point angle and cutting edge symmetry. Asymmetric sharpening enlarges the hole diameter and loads the spindle unevenly. Each sharpening reduces the flute length by approximately 1–2 mm.

Frequently asked questions about the Ø10.2 mm drill bit
The Ø10.2 mm NWKc drill bit with an MT1 taper mounts directly in the drill press spindle — the self-holding taper eliminates slipping under high cutting torque. A straight shank drill bit requires a drill chuck, which may not transmit the full torque during heavy use.
Yes — using an MT1→MT2 reduction sleeve. The sleeve ensures proper seating of the taper in the larger spindle socket. Use a correctly sized drill drift for removal.
The maximum drilling depth is the flute length l2 = 87 mm minus the drill point length (approximately 3 mm). The effective usable depth is therefore approximately 84 mm.
