Ø29.75 mm HSS metal drill bit – Morse taper MT3
Product description and key benefits
The Ø29.75 mm metal drill bit with an MT3 taper shank to DIN 345 is a tool used under heavy-duty machining conditions on box-column and radial drill presses. Type N flute geometry balances chip evacuation and drill core rigidity. The Ø29.75 Morse taper drill bit is selected by machine builders, repair facilities, and steel fabrication plants.
Key benefits of the Ø29.75 mm metal drill bit
- MT3 taper — direct mounting — eliminates the drill chuck as a source of radial runout and tool slippage
- HSS cutting edge, 63–65 HRC — hardness that ensures stable cutting of steels with tensile strengths up to 900 N/mm² throughout the interval between sharpenings
- Right-hand helical flutes — effective chip evacuation from the cutting zone — essential when drilling holes deeper than 2×D
- Compact 296 mm design — shorter tool overhang provides greater rigidity and less vibration
- Repeated reconditioning — the HSS cutting edge can be resharpened 8–12 times while retaining its geometry — at l2 = 175 mm, the resharpening allowance is approximately 21 mm
- Sleeve compatibility — use on drilling machines with MT2 to MT4 spindles using reduction sleeves
The Ø29.75 mm Morse taper drill is selected for holes for pins, bearing bushings, and flanged connections in machinery manufacturing. It is suitable for machining foundation plates and bearing end shields. H12 tolerance holes (Ø29.750–Ø29.960 mm); tighter fits are achieved by reaming or boring.

Coolant selection for drilling diameters of 23–31 mm
At a diameter of 29.75 mm, the volume of chips removed is considerable — the helical flutes must evacuate a large amount of material. Use an emulsion at a concentration of 6–8% with a flow rate of at least 5 l/min. Without pressurized coolant, limit the depth of each pass to 59 mm.

Frequently asked questions about the Ø29.75 mm drill bit
A pillar or box-column drill press with an MT3 spindle and a power rating of at least 1.5 kW. For diameters above 25 mm, power feed is recommended — manual feed will not provide uniform pressure.
An HSSE drill bit contains 5% cobalt, which increases heat resistance from 600°C to 650°C. The practical difference: HSSE performs much better in stainless and difficult-to-machine steels. When machining only carbon steels, the difference in tool life is minimal.
Use peck drilling: retract the drill every 1–1.5×D, clear chips from the flutes, and cool with a 6–8% emulsion. Reduce the feed by 30–50% from the nominal value.
