Gauges are measuring instruments used to determine whether a particular dimension of an object is correct and does not exceed the limit (lower and upper). They make it possible to quickly check a particular value, shape, gap, diameter.
Depending on the type of task, gauges are divided into dimension and shape gauges. The most commonly used gauges include ring gauges, mandrel gauges and piston gauges.
Gauge inserts are basic length standards, with which the dimension they represent is determined by the distance between two edges. On the market there are inserts made of hardened steel, tungsten carbide (highest hardness and wear resistance) and ceramic / zirconium (resistant to abrasion and temperature changes, non-magnetic). The most common are steel inserts. They are characterized by a relatively low price, but the disadvantage of these tools is their high susceptibility to damage and scratching.
