Ø30.75 mm HSS metal drill bit – Morse taper MT3
Product description and key benefits
The Ø30.75 mm twist drill with an MT3 Morse taper is designed for drilling holes for bolted connections in steel structures — pipeline flanges, truss joints, and beam end plates. The MT3 taper with a diameter of 23.825 mm provides sufficient contact area to transmit the torque generated when drilling holes larger than 23 mm. The Ø30.75 Morse taper drill seats in the spindles of shop-grade pillar and box-column drilling machines rated at 1.5 kW or more.
Key benefits of the Ø30.75 mm metal drill bit
- MT3 taper — direct mounting — eliminates the drill chuck as a source of radial runout and tool slippage
- HSS cutting edge, 63–65 HRC — hardness that ensures stable cutting of steels with tensile strengths up to 900 N/mm² throughout the interval between sharpenings
- Right-hand helical flutes — effective chip evacuation from the cutting zone — essential when drilling holes deeper than 2×D
- Compact 301 mm design — shorter tool overhang provides greater rigidity and less vibration
- Repeated reconditioning — the HSS cutting edge can be resharpened 8–12 times while retaining its geometry — at l2 = 180 mm, the resharpening allowance is approximately 22 mm
- Sleeve compatibility — use on drilling machines with MT2 to MT4 spindles using reduction sleeves
The Ø30.75 mm Morse taper drill bit is used to manufacture infrastructure components — columns, supports, brackets, and load-bearing frames. In steel construction, hole diameters of 23–31 mm correspond to M22–M30 bolts. An H12 tolerance of Ø30.750–Ø31.000 mm is sufficient for through holes.

Machine tool requirements
The Ø30.75 mm drill requires a drilling machine with at least 1.5 kW of power and a rigid pillar or box-column construction. Bench drilling machines do not provide sufficient rigidity — resulting in runout, vibration, and accelerated cutting edge wear.

Frequently asked questions about the Ø30.75 mm drill bit
A pillar or box-column drill press with an MT3 spindle and a power rating of at least 1.5 kW. For diameters above 25 mm, power feed is recommended — manual feed will not provide uniform pressure.
An HSSE drill bit contains 5% cobalt, which increases heat resistance from 600°C to 650°C. The practical difference: HSSE performs much better in stainless and difficult-to-machine steels. When machining only carbon steels, the difference in tool life is minimal.
Use peck drilling: retract the drill every 1–1.5×D, clear chips from the flutes, and cool with a 6–8% emulsion. Reduce the feed by 30–50% from the nominal value.
