The self-holding MT4 taper eliminates tool slippage even under full cutting torque. The Ø38 Morse taper drill bit is used in steel fabrication plants, industrial machinery service shops, and maintenance departments.

The Ø38 mm drill bit is used in steel fabrication plants, maintenance departments, and industrial machinery service shops. It is suitable for drilling mounting holes in foundation plates, pipeline flanges, and machine housings. It normally produces holes to tolerance grade H12 (Ø38.000–Ø38.250 mm); holes requiring an H7 fit need additional reaming.

Minimum machine tool power
The Ø38 mm drill requires a drilling machine with at least 2.2 kW of power and power spindle feed. Stability is difficult to maintain with manual feed — uneven pressure leads to vibration and accelerated cutting edge wear. A box-column or radial drilling machine is recommended.

Frequently asked questions about the Ø38 mm drill bit
1) Clean the taper and spindle socket. 2) Check runout (maximum 0.03 mm). 3) Replace the drill if the taper is damaged or worn. 4) Do not stack reduction sleeves (e.g., MT4→MT3→MT5).
For diameters up to approximately 40 mm, drilling into solid material is possible after spot drilling with an NC 90° drill. Above 40 mm, a Ø20–25 mm pilot hole is recommended to reduce axial force by 40–50% and eliminate vibration from the chisel edge.
When drilling S355 steel with a Ø38 mm drill, the torque is approximately 95 Nm. This requires a drilling machine with a minimum power rating of 2.3 kW and power spindle feed.
