Ø82 mm HSS metal drill bit – Morse taper MT6

Product description and key benefits

The Ø82 mm NWKc metal drill bit with an MT6 Morse taper operates under extreme thermal and mechanical loads. The volume of chips generated per centimeter of depth is many times greater than at diameters associated with MT4 tapers — pressurized coolant at a minimum flow rate of 10 l/min is essential for safe operation. The Ø82 Morse taper drill bit requires staged drilling (pilot + final diameter), which reduces forces and stabilizes tool guidance.

Key benefits of the Ø82 mm metal drill bit

  • Direct mounting in an MT6 spindle — eliminates the drill chuck as a source of runout and slippage
  • Flute length 275 mm — drilling through holes in workpieces up to 260 mm thick in a single pass
  • DIN 345 — identical taper dimensions regardless of manufacturer — full interchangeability
  • Type N right-hand helical flutes — a compromise between web rigidity and flute capacity
  • h8 diameter fit — preliminary holes for reaming to H7 without additional boring
  • Extended tool life with emulsion cooling — coolant increases cutting edge life by up to a factor of 2.5 compared with dry drilling

The Ø82 mm Morse taper drill bit is a tool for plants equipped with heavy machine tools — radial drilling machines, boring machines, and machining centers. Typical applications: holes for bearing bushings, valve seats, and process holes in castings. Tolerance H12 (Ø82.000–Ø82.350 mm).

REDUCTION SLEEVES COMPATIBLE WITH THE Ø82 MM DRILL BIT:

✓ MT6 → MT5 — not recommended (socket capacity below the operating load)
✓ MT6 → MT4 — not recommended (socket significantly undersized for the load)
✓ MT6 drill drift — for removing the drill bit from the spindle

Pressurized coolant is mandatory

At a diameter of 82 mm, drilling without pressurized coolant is not permitted. Minimum coolant system flow rate: 10 l/min, emulsion concentration 8–10%. Lack of cooling leads to cutting-edge overheating, hardening of the material in the cutting zone, and drill breakage.

Material compatibility of the Ø82 mm drill bit

Range of workpiece materials and application limitations

✓ Structural steel (S235, S355) up to 900 N/mm²
✓ Gray and ductile cast iron (GG20, GGG40)
✓ Low-carbon and medium-alloy steel
▲ Stainless steel (Vc reduced by 50%, pilot drilling required)
▲ Aluminum and Al alloys (increased Vc, emulsion cooling)
✗ Hardened steels above 45 HRC

Frequently asked questions about the Ø82 mm drill bit

Pressurized coolant is mandatory: emulsion concentration 8–10%, minimum flow rate 10 l/min. Lack of cooling leads to cutting-edge overheating, hardening of the cutting zone, and tool breakage.

Yes — an HSSE drill bit with the same dimensions (DIN 345) is a 1:1 replacement. The difference: HSSE with 5% cobalt better withstands the temperatures encountered during prolonged large-diameter drilling. When machining only carbon steels, the difference is small.

Maximum runout of 0.03 mm measured at the drill tip. Clean the taper and socket before each installation. Do not nest reduction sleeves. Replace the drill bit if the taper shows signs of wear or indentation.
