Ø14.25 mm HSS metal drill bit – Morse taper MT2
Product description and key benefits
The Ø14.25 mm HSS twist drill with an MT2 Morse taper is designed for drilling machines with tapered spindles and power ratings of at least 0.75 kW. In this diameter range, a straight-shank tool requires a drill chuck, which adds another link in the torque transmission path. The Ø14.25 Morse taper drill eliminates this link — it seats directly in the spindle, resulting in better hole quality.
Key benefits of the Ø14.25 mm metal drill bit
- MT2 taper — direct mounting — eliminates the drill chuck as a source of radial runout and tool slippage
- HSS cutting edge, 63–65 HRC — hardness that ensures stable cutting of steels with tensile strengths up to 900 N/mm² throughout the interval between sharpenings
- Right-hand helical flutes — effective chip evacuation from the cutting zone — essential when drilling holes deeper than 2×D
- Compact 212 mm design — shorter tool overhang provides greater rigidity and less vibration
- Repeated reconditioning — the HSS cutting edge can be resharpened 8–12 times while retaining its geometry — at l2 = 114 mm, the resharpening allowance is approximately 14 mm
- Sleeve compatibility — use on drilling machines with MT1 to MT3 spindles using reduction sleeves
The Ø14.25 mm Morse taper drill is used in facilities where drilling holes is a daily operation — steel fabrication plants, machinery service shops, and toolrooms. Secure taper mounting allows hours of operation without checking the chuck. H12 hole tolerance, Ø14.250–Ø14.430 mm.

Mounting the drill in the spindle
Before mounting the Ø14.25 mm drill, remove chips, oil, and contaminants from the taper and spindle socket. Residue between the contact surfaces causes radial runout and can damage the spindle socket.

Frequently asked questions about the Ø14.25 mm drill bit
It depends on the specific bolted joint. For metric coarse-thread bolts, the clearance hole diameter according to ISO 273 is 0.5–1 mm larger than the nominal thread diameter.
Use cooling with a 5–8% emulsion, do not exceed the recommended cutting parameters, and resharpen the tool before it becomes completely dull. Clean taper and spindle socket surfaces reduce runout — the main cause of accelerated wear.
In S235/S355 structural steels, spot drilling is not necessary — the 118° angle provides self-centering. Spotting with a 90° NC spotting drill is recommended when drilling on uneven or inclined surfaces, where the drill may slip away from the marked point.
