Ø9.3 mm HSS metal drill bit – Morse taper MT1
Product description and key benefits
The Ø9.3 mm NWKc metal drill bit is based on DIN 345, which defines both the MT1 taper geometry and the proportions of the flute length to the overall tool length. This standardization ensures full interchangeability — a drill bit from one manufacturer can replace one from another without spindle adjustment or sleeve replacement. With a flute length of 81 mm, the Ø9.3 Morse taper drill bit can drill through holes in typical steel sections used in workshop production.
Key benefits of the Ø9.3 mm metal drill bit
- Secure MT1 taper mounting — the self-holding taper conforming to DIN 345 transmits cutting torque without intermediate components — no drill chuck is required
- HSS steel resistant to temperatures up to 600°C — the cutting edge retains its working hardness at the cutting speeds recommended for structural steels and cast iron
- Flute length 81 mm — enables drilling through holes in components up to 71 mm thick without extensions
- Self-centering 118° geometry — eliminates spot drilling on flat surfaces — saves time in batch production
- Diameter tolerance class h8 — the predrilled hole is ready for reaming to H7 without an additional boring bar pass
- Full interchangeability according to DIN 345 — identical taper dimensions regardless of manufacturer — the drill can be replaced without adjusting the machine
The Ø9.3 Morse taper drill is used in maintenance departments for repairing and reconditioning machine components. Standard H12 hole tolerance (Ø9.300–Ø9.450 mm) is sufficient for most through holes; close fits are achieved by reaming.

Spot drilling
When drilling on uneven surfaces, castings with machining allowance, or inclined planes, spot drilling with an NC 90° drill is recommended before using the Ø9.3 mm drill. The spot-drilled hole stabilizes the point position and prevents the cutting edge from slipping away from the marked location.

Frequently asked questions about the Ø9.3 mm drill bit
A cooling and lubricating emulsion at a concentration of 5–8% is recommended. For stainless steels, increase the concentration to 8–10%. Cast iron can be drilled dry with compressed air to remove chips.
The Ø9.3 mm NWKc drill bit with an MT1 taper mounts directly in the drill press spindle — the self-holding taper eliminates slipping under high cutting torque. A straight shank drill bit requires a drill chuck, which may not transmit the full torque during heavy use.
Yes — using an MT1→MT2 reduction sleeve. The sleeve ensures proper seating of the taper in the larger spindle socket. Use a correctly sized drill drift for removal.
