Ø35.25 mm HSS metal drill bit – Morse taper MT4

Product description and key benefits

The Ø35.25 mm metal drill bit with an MT4 Morse taper is used for industrial hole machining where hole position accuracy and dimensions must be repeatable in series production. Direct seating in the spindle eliminates sources of runout — essential at diameters where even slight cutting-edge asymmetry causes oversized holes. The Ø35.25 Morse taper drill bit with an h8 diameter tolerance provides a preliminary hole size ready for further machining.

Key benefits of the Ø35.25 mm metal drill bit

  • Secure MT4 taper mounting — the self-holding taper conforming to DIN 345 transmits cutting torque without intermediate components — no drill chuck is required
  • HSS steel resistant to temperatures up to 600°C — the cutting edge retains its working hardness at the cutting speeds recommended for structural steels and cast iron
  • Flute length 190 mm — enables drilling through holes in components up to 180 mm thick without extensions
  • Self-centering 118° geometry — eliminates spot drilling on flat surfaces — saves time in batch production
  • Diameter tolerance class h8 — the predrilled hole is ready for reaming to H7 without an additional boring bar pass
  • Full interchangeability according to DIN 345 — identical taper dimensions regardless of manufacturer — the drill can be replaced without adjusting the machine

The Ø35.25 mm drill bit is used in steel fabrication plants, maintenance departments, and industrial machinery service shops. It is suitable for drilling mounting holes in foundation plates, pipeline flanges, and machine housings. It normally produces holes to tolerance grade H12 (Ø35.250–Ø35.500 mm); holes requiring an H7 fit need additional reaming.

Minimum machine tool power

The Ø35.25 mm drill requires a drilling machine with at least 2.2 kW of power and power spindle feed. Stability is difficult to maintain with manual feed — uneven pressure leads to vibration and accelerated cutting edge wear. A box-column or radial drilling machine is recommended.

Material compatibility of the Ø35.25 mm drill bit

Range of workpiece materials and application limitations

✓ Structural steel (S235, S355) up to 900 N/mm²
✓ Gray and ductile cast iron (GG20, GGG40)
✓ Low-carbon and medium-alloy steel
▲ Stainless steel (Vc reduced by 40%, ample coolant)
▲ Aluminum and Al alloys (emulsion coolant required)
✗ Hardened steels above 45 HRC

Frequently asked questions about the Ø35.25 mm drill bit

When drilling S355 steel with a Ø35.25 mm drill, the torque is approximately 88 Nm. This requires a drilling machine with a minimum power rating of 2.1 kW and power spindle feed.

For a drilling machine with an MT5 spindle: MT4→MT5 sleeve. For a smaller MT3 spindle: MT4→MT3 sleeve (check that the operating load does not exceed the socket capacity). For removal: MT4 drill drift.

Depth greater than 3×D (105 mm): reduce feed by 30–50%, retract every 1×D, and use a 6–8% emulsion at a minimum flow rate of 6 l/min. Peck drilling prevents chips from jamming in the flutes.
