Trepanning drills for metal

Thanks to this way of machining, the whole process is much more efficient, due to the smaller amount of chips that are produced, and the "leftover material" that has been created can be used as full-value material. In addition, an important advantage of tubular drills is the drilling time - it is much shorter, it is about 30-40% of the time of drilling with a standard drill.
Crown drills have a tubular shape for deep or shallow drilling with blades distributed around the edge of the working part. The blades are most often made of high-quality HSS high-speed steel. The tools are made with a metric shank Fi 3/4 inch, or 19.05 mm (mounting in a special chuck transition to a Morse taper or directly in a collet). Tubular drills, in case of wear, are suitable for reconditioning and resharpening. Trepanation drills in our offer are of Polish production.

Application of trepanning drills

Today there are many tools available on the market for drilling holes in steel. Among the most popular are trepanning drills - high-performance drills most often used in electromagnetic alloy drills, as well as in CNC machine tools. Trepanning drills popularly, called crown drills or tubular drills, as well as trepanning cutters in recent times have become an alternative to traditional solid twist drills.
Trepanning drills are designed for drilling through holes. They do not require an initial hole, which is reamed out in subsequent machining operations.
This makes their use simpler and more economical. The construction of the cutters is designed to make the drilling process faster and more efficient than using traditional drill bits. The comfort of drilling is so high that it will surprise many users, including those who use such tools on a daily basis. These drills work well not only in simple workshop work, but also in industrial work conditions, where we have to deal with multiple and repetitive holes.

What trepanning drills are used for

The specific design of the trepanning drill z and its use in the production of materials, work very well when drilling through holes in steel sheets and various types of sections. However, it is necessary to remember to use a guide pilot, which removes the residue of the drilled material from inside the tool and further fixes the center of the hole. In the case of crown drills, it is important that the cutting of the material takes place only along the circumference (the cutters in the center are hollow), and not over the total drilling diameter, as is the case with ordinary spiral drills. All this is done to optimize the power consumption of the power tool as much as possible and to reduce its pressure on the workpiece.

Construction of the trepan drill bit

High-quality high-speed steel is used in the production of standard HSS drills. HSS drills are characterized by careful manufacturing, very good cutting performance and high blade hardness. These drills are built with a cylindrical working part with teeth on the periphery and a chuck. The crown drills have a standard 19 mm (3/4″) Weldon-type mount for quick and stable installation. The teeth have a complex blade geometry, which is designed so that the unique shape of the tooth and the appropriate hardness of the tooth contribute to the life and performance of the tool and also protect against chipping. They also have a large positive angle of attack and are connected to spiral grooves. The professional spiral grooves quickly and efficiently carry away the chips generated during drilling. A careful hardening process improves the flexibility of the drill body.
There are cutters made of HSS with diameters from 12 to 50 mm. Their working length is 30mm or 50mm.

What to keep in mind when choosing crown tube drills

When working with crown drills, it is important to remember to use coolant when drilling. This is important because, due to the temperature that is generated during drilling, the coolant significantly extends the life of the tool itself, while also reducing cutting resistance.
