The M72x1.5 metric die is a specialized round die for cutting external threads with a diameter of 72 mm and an ultra-fine pitch of 1.5 mm. Made from high-speed steel (HSS) hardened to 64 HRC, compliant with DIN 22 568, it provides the highest dimensional precision in the absolute most demanding applications. The M72x1.5 threading die is intended for use in structural steels with a maximum tensile strength of 800 MPa and special materials.

The M72x1.5 thread is one of the largest metric fine threads available, used in marine engines rated at many thousands of horsepower, power plant turbine units, high-tonnage industrial presses, and wherever the absolute maximum strength is required at the largest possible diameters.
The rod outside diameter should be 71.80-71.92 mm for tolerance class 6g according to DIN 22 568. Chamfer the end of the rod at 45° over a length of 18-20 mm before starting to cut the thread.
Chamfer the end of the rod at an angle of 45°, secure the workpiece in a chuck that eliminates all vibration, and guide the die perpendicular to the axis. A holder with axial compensation and intensive cooling with high-pressure emulsion at a minimum of 60 bar are mandatory.
