Due to the dimensions, a mechanical drive, holders with maximum rigidity, and intensive lubrication with products dedicated to the most demanding large-diameter threading operations are recommended as mandatory measures.
Frequently asked questions
Prepare a rod (diameter 74.5-74.6 mm) with a machined 45° chamfer. Due to the very large diameter, a mechanical drive is absolutely essential – a lathe or a specialized industrial threading machine. Operate the die in this cycle: two turns forward, one reverse movement of half a turn. The process requires maximum clamping rigidity to eliminate any vibration, as well as supervision by an experienced operator.
Use threading oils or cooling and lubricating emulsions, applied very generously before starting and every 2-3 turns during operation. At a diameter of 75 mm, extreme cutting forces are generated – intensive lubrication is essential for reducing resistance and temperature and extending tool life. Be sure to consider an automatic lubrication system on the machine.
Jamming at a diameter of 75 mm is a very serious and dangerous problem. Immediately stop the mechanical drive according to the safety protocol and withdraw the die in reverse mode under full control. Clean the flutes very thoroughly and carefully check the rod diameter with a micrometer at multiple points. Resume only with generous amounts of fresh, top-quality lubricant and more frequent backing off – every 1.5 turn instead of every 2, under the supervision of a team with many years of experience in large structures.
