Die M6x0.5 HSS DIN 22 568 – precision tool for miniature metric fine threads

The M6x0.5 die is an ultraprecision round tool made of high-speed steel (HSS) with a hardness of 64 HRC, designed for cutting external metric threads with a small diameter of 6 mm and a fine pitch of 0.5 mm. Threads of such small dimensions and fine pitch require the highest manufacturing precision and are used in precision engineering, electronics, optics, and measuring instruments. Compliance with DIN 22 568 and a tolerance class of 6g ensure a proper fit with 6H nuts in applications requiring absolute accuracy. This tool is intended for specialized precision workshops producing miniature components.

Why choose the M6x0.5 precision die

  • Miniature thread with a pitch of 0.5 mm – a fine pitch at a small diameter ensures high joint precision and allows accurate tightening force adjustment in precision applications
  • Diameter of 6 mm for small components – the size makes the tool suitable for miniature rods, adjustment studs, and pins in electronics and optics
  • High-speed steel HSS 64 HRC – maintains sharpness despite the extremely small cutting edge dimensions when cutting threads in steels, aluminum, and brass
  • 6g tolerance according to ISO – standard accuracy grade with controlled clearance ensures a proper fit in precision miniature mechanisms
  • Solid round construction – the unsegmented construction eliminates dimensional errors that are absolutely critical with miniature diameters and a fine pitch

The M6x0.5 die is a tool for the most specialized workshops involved in precision engineering and the manufacture of measuring instruments and electronics. It excels at cutting threads on miniature studs, pins, and components requiring the highest accuracy. Due to the extreme dimensions, threading requires exceptional care, perfect clamping, and an operator with the highest qualifications.

Frequently asked questions

Prepare a rod with a diameter of 5.9 to 5.95 mm and a carefully formed chamfer. Clamp the workpiece very securely (preferably under a magnifier or microscope). Position the die perfectly perpendicular to the rod and make one full turn forward, then half a turn backward. With miniature dimensions, avoid any excessive pressure.

Use precision machine oils in minimal quantities – excess oil makes visual inspection difficult. Apply a drop of oil before starting and replenish it every few turns. For aluminum, use kerosene with added oil; for steel, use a light threading oil for precision mechanisms.

Miniature cutting edges are extremely delicate. At the slightest increase in resistance, stop immediately and back the die off very carefully. Use a micrometer to check that the rod diameter is accurate (a deviation of 0.05 mm can be critical). Clean the flutes with a soft brush and resume with more frequent reversing – every 0.75-1 turns.
