Die M18X1.5 HSS DIN 22 568 – fine-thread tool for precision machining
The M18X1.5 threading die is a tool for cutting external metric fine threads with a diameter of 18 mm and a pitch of 1.5 mm. Manufactured from high-speed steel (HSS) hardened to 64 HRC in accordance with DIN 22 568, it provides dimensional repeatability in industrial applications. The M18X1.5 metric die is designed for machining structural steels with a maximum tensile strength of 800 MPa and nonferrous alloys.
Main advantages of the M18X1.5 HSS round die
- Hardened to 64 HRC – increased wear resistance when cutting metric fine threads in medium cross sections
- Metric fine thread with a pitch of 1.5 mm at a diameter of 18 mm – high thread density provides strength and vibration resistance
- Medium tolerance 6g according to DIN 22 568 – general-purpose clearance fit with a maximum clearance of 0.15 mm for standard applications
- Solid round construction – the solid body eliminates deformation when machining shafts and rods
- Versatility across materials – effective thread cutting in structural steels, aluminum, brass, and cast iron
The tool is used in automotive applications, machinery manufacturing, and the production of components exposed to variable loads. The 6g tolerance ensures compatibility with 6H nuts without the risk of binding. Machine shops use the M18X1.5 die in the production of hydraulic components and transmission parts, and wherever increased strength is required with limited thread engagement length.
Frequently asked questions
The M18X1.5 metric fine thread is used in precision hydraulics, mechanical transmissions, automotive components exposed to vibration, and wherever increased connection strength and resistance to loosening are required with limited engagement length.
Secure a rod with a diameter of 17.80-17.92 mm rigidly in a chuck or vise. Chamfer the end of the rod at 45° over a length of 4-5 mm and remove rust and burrs from the surface.
For structural steels, recommended speeds are 10-15 rpm using a lever-operated die stock or a machine drive. Reversing by half a turn after every two full turns and applying generous lubrication with threading oil are mandatory.
