The M64x1.5 die is a tool for the most specialized industrial workshops handling large-scale safety-critical applications. It is used in high-end power engineering, the machinery industry, and critical structures where reliability requirements are highest at large sizes. Due to this unique combination, threading requires a powered drive or, at a minimum, die stocks with very long handles of at least 600 mm, intensive lubrication, and highly skilled operators experienced in large-diameter fine threads.

Prepare a rod (diameter 63.6-63.65 mm) with a carefully formed chamfer. Due to the large diameter, a powered drive or a die stock with handles at least 600 mm long is recommended. Operate the die in a cycle of one full turn forward and half a turn back. With this combination, check perpendicularity very frequently and use the most rigid clamping possible to eliminate all vibration.
This combination requires the most intensive industrial lubrication. Use top-quality threading oils for heavy-duty applications, applying them very generously on every turn. At a diameter of 64 mm and a pitch of 1.5 mm, a huge volume of chips is generated – be sure to consider an automatic lubrication system to ensure a continuous supply of lubricant under extreme demands.
A fine pitch at a diameter of 64 mm generates a huge volume of chips. At the slightest increase in resistance, stop the process (or powered drive) immediately and withdraw the die in reverse. Check the rod diameter very carefully (the tolerance of ±0.05 mm is critical). Clean the flutes completely with high-pressure compressed air. Resume only with the most frequent possible backing off (every 0.75-1 turn) and fresh lubrication, under the supervision of an experienced operator qualified to work on large-scale structures.
