M13x1 HSS DIN 22 568 die – a fine-thread tool for precision connections of small diameters
The M13x1 die is a professional round tool made of high-speed steel (HSS) with a hardness of 64 HRC, designed for cutting external metric fine threads with a diameter of 13 mm and a pitch of 1 mm. At this diameter, the fine thread provides increased vibration resistance and higher fatigue strength compared with the standard M13x1.5 thread. A design compliant with DIN 22 568 and a tolerance of 6g guarantee proper mating with 6H nuts in applications requiring stable threaded connections. This tool is ideal for precision engineering, the automotive industry, and any application requiring small connections resistant to vibration-induced self-loosening.
Why choose the M13x1 metric fine thread die
- Fine thread with a 1 mm pitch – a pitch finer than the standard 1.5 mm increases the load-bearing area and improves resistance to vibrational loads in precision applications
- Diameter of 13 mm for small precision components – a popular size in precision engineering, the automotive industry, and machinery requiring reliable small connections
- High-speed steel HSS 64 HRC – provides long service life when cutting threads in structural steels up to 800 MPa, aluminum, and brass
- 6g tolerance according to ISO – standard accuracy grade with controlled clearance allows easy nut installation without binding
- Solid round construction – the non-segmented construction eliminates dimensional errors and ensures repeatability in series production of small components
The M13x1 die is a tool chosen by machine shops, maintenance departments, and manufacturing facilities specializing in small components subjected to dynamic loads. It is particularly recommended for cutting threads on rods, pins, and studs in precision engineering and the automotive industry. Use with threading lubricants is recommended to obtain a smooth surface and extend cutting edge life.
Frequently asked questions
Prepare the rod (diameter 12.85-12.9 mm) with an end chamfer of approximately 45°. Clamp it securely and position the die exactly perpendicular to the axis. Use the following sequence: two turns forward, half a turn back to break the chips. For a small diameter with a fine pitch, pay particular attention to perpendicular alignment and lubricate every 3-4 turns.
For structural steels, use threading oil or machine oil, applied before starting and replenished regularly every few turns. Kerosene with added oil works well for aluminum. A metric fine thread with a pitch of 1 mm requires more intensive lubrication than a standard thread – apply every 3 turns to maintain smooth operation.
Causes: excessive rod diameter, insufficient reversing, or lack of lubricant. Stop immediately and gently back off the die (small diameters are delicate). Clean the flutes with a brush or compressed air and check the rod diameter carefully with a micrometer. Resume with generous lubrication and more frequent reversing – every 1.5 turns for a metric fine thread.
