Die M42X3 HSS DIN 22 568 – standard threading at very large diameters
The M42X3 threading die is a professional tool for cutting external threads with a diameter of 42 mm and a standard pitch of 3 mm. Manufactured from high-speed steel (HSS) hardened to 64 HRC according to DIN 22 568, it provides high dimensional accuracy in large-scale applications. The M42X3 metric die is designed for machining structural steels with a tensile strength of up to 800 MPa and nonferrous metals.

The M42X3 thread is used in marine engines, high-tonnage hydraulic presses, large drive shafts, power generation turbine units, and steel structures requiring threaded connections with very large diameters and resistance to extreme dynamic loads.
The rod outside diameter should be 41.70-41.85 mm for tolerance class 6g according to DIN 22 568. Chamfer the end of the rod at 45° over a length of 10 mm before starting threading.
Due to the extreme diameter of 42 mm, a high-torque machine drive operating at 6-10 rpm is required for steel. A holder with axial compensation, intensive lubrication with pressurized emulsion, and reversing half a turn every two full turns are mandatory.
