Die M4.5x0.5 HSS DIN 22 568 – miniature tool for metric fine threads in precision mechanics
The M4.5x0.5 die is an ultraprecision round tool made of high-speed steel (HSS) with a hardness of 64 HRC, designed for cutting external metric threads with a miniature diameter of 4.5 mm and a fine pitch of 0.5 mm. A thread of such small dimensions and fine pitch requires the highest manufacturing precision and is used in precision mechanics, electronics, optics, and measuring instruments. Compliance with DIN 22 568 and a tolerance class of 6g ensure a correct fit with 6H nuts in applications requiring absolute accuracy. This tool is intended for the most specialized precision workshops manufacturing miniature components of the highest quality.
Main advantages of the M4.5x0.5 ultraprecision die
- Miniature metric fine thread with a pitch of 0.5 mm – an extremely fine pitch at a miniature diameter ensures the highest joint precision and allows ultraprecise adjustment of tightening torque
- Diameter of 4.5 mm for miniature components – the size makes the tool suitable for ultraminiature rods, shafts, and pins in precision electronics and microinstrumentation
- HSS steel hardness of 64 HRC – maintains sharpness despite the extremely small cutting edge dimensions when cutting threads in steels, aluminum, and brass
- Tolerance class 6g according to ISO – standard accuracy grade with controlled clearance ensures a proper fit in ultraprecision miniature mechanisms
- Solid round construction – construction without segments eliminates dimensional errors that are absolutely critical at miniature diameters with a fine pitch
The M4.5x0.5 die is a tool for the most specialized workshops working in ultraprecision mechanics, manufacturing measuring instruments of the highest quality, and microelectronics. It is ideal for cutting threads on miniature shafts, micropins, and components requiring absolute dimensional accuracy. Due to the extreme dimensions, threading requires exceptional care, perfect clamping under a magnifier or microscope, and an operator with the highest qualifications and certifications in precision micromechanics.
Frequently asked questions
Prepare a rod (diameter 4.4-4.45 mm) with a carefully formed microchamfer. Working under a magnifier or microscope is strongly recommended. Clamp the workpiece with ultraprecision and position the die perfectly square. Make one full turn forward, then half a turn backward. With miniature dimensions and a fine pitch, avoid absolutely any excessive pressure.
Use precision machine oils in ultramicroscopic quantities – excess oil completely obstructs visual monitoring at miniature dimensions. Apply a microscopic drop of oil before starting and replenish it with a microapplication every few turns. At a miniature diameter and fine pitch, the balance between lubricant quantity and visibility is critical.
Ultraminiature cutting edges with a fine pitch are the most delicate. At the slightest increase in resistance, stop immediately and unscrew the die extremely carefully under continuous visual monitoring. Check the rod diameter under a magnifier or microscope (a tolerance of ±0.05 mm is absolutely critical). Clean the flutes with an ultraprecision microscopic brush. Resume with the highest frequency of backing off – every 0.5-0.75 turns under continuous microscopic monitoring.
