M70x1.5 left-hand HSS die, DIN 22 568 – left-hand ultra-fine threading at extremely large diameters
The M70x1.5 left-hand threading die is a specialized round die for cutting external left-hand threads with a diameter of 70 mm and an ultra-fine pitch of 1.5 mm. Manufactured from high-speed steel (HSS) hardened to 64 HRC in accordance with DIN 22 568, it ensures the highest dimensional precision in the most demanding applications of all. The M70x1.5 left-hand metric die is designed for machining structural steels with a maximum tensile strength of 800 MPa.

Professional manufacturing facilities use the M70x1.5 left-hand die in the construction of the highest-power marine engines and power-generation turbine sets, and wherever protection against loosening is required with the absolute maximum thread count and extremely large diameters under critical dynamic loads.

Class 6g defines a medium degree of accuracy with controlled axial clearance, allowing easy assembly with 6H left-hand nuts. It is a universal standard for mechanical joints in heavy industry and large machinery requiring reverse-direction threads.
The tool is designed for structural steels with tensile strengths up to 800 MPa and nonferrous metals such as aluminum, brass, and gray cast iron. The maximum workpiece material hardness is 37 HRC.
Chamfer the end of the bar at 45°, secure the workpiece in a holder that eliminates vibration, and guide the die perpendicular to the axis. Use a holder with axial compensation or a machine drive, turn counterclockwise instead of clockwise, back off half a turn every two full turns, and apply plenty of threading oil.
