The M18x1.5 left-hand metric die is a specialized round die for cutting external left-hand threads with a diameter of 18 mm and a fine pitch of 1.5 mm. Made from high-speed steel (HSS) hardened to 64 HRC, compliant with DIN 22 568, it ensures high dimensional accuracy in applications requiring reverse-direction threads. The M18x1.5 left-hand threading die is intended for use in structural steels with a maximum tensile strength of 800 MPa and in nonferrous alloys.

The M18x1.5 left-hand fine thread is used in clockwise-rotating grinding machine spindles, mechanical transmissions, agricultural machinery, and wherever centrifugal force or torque could loosen a standard right-hand thread during operation at high rotational speeds.
The outside diameter of the rod should be 17.80-17.92 mm in accordance with tolerance 6g per DIN 22 568. The end of the rod should be chamfered at 45° over a length of 4-5 mm before cutting the left-hand thread.
Prepare a rod of the appropriate diameter and chamfer the end at 45°. Secure it firmly in a vise and keep the die perpendicular to the axis while turning counterclockwise, backing off half a turn every two full turns and applying plenty of threading oil for structural steel.
