Where chips remain in a straight-flute tap
The flute holds the chips until the tap is reversed out
The straight flute runs parallel to the tap axis. There is no helix to carry chips upward. The chamfer cutting edges are not ground at an angle, so they do not push chips downward. Short chips break into fragments and remain in the flute, next to the cutting edges that produced them. They leave the hole only when the tap is backed out. The M18x1.5 tap has a reduced shank to DIN 374: diameter 14 mm, square size 11 mm.
M18x1.5 INOX machine tap – for CNC machining
In this range, the manufacturer offers the M18x1.5 INOX machine tap with optimized cutting geometry for metric fine threads with a pitch of 1.5 mm. The tool meets DIN 374 requirements and provides the 6H thread tolerance class required for series production of mechanical and precision components. HSSE steel construction with 5% added cobalt ensures a hardness of 66 HRC and resistance to temperatures up to 650°C in the cutting zone. Form C with straight flutes provides versatile use in through and blind holes in stainless steels.
Advantages of the M18x1.5 INOX tap
- Compatibility with ER32 holders collets and synchronized tapping chucks for CNC machining centers with automatic tool change
- Durability increased by the addition of cobalt in HSSE steel extends cutting edge life by 40-60% compared with standard HSS taps
- Material versatility covering austenitic stainless steels 304 and 316, structural steels up to 800 MPa and nonferrous metals such as aluminum and brass
- Precision to tolerance class 6H meeting the requirements of series production of mechanical and pneumatic components with tight fit tolerances
- Conforms to DIN 374 for fine threads ensures standardized shank dimensions and interchangeability with tools from European manufacturers
- M18x1.5 general-purpose machine tap with form C ensures proper chip evacuation in through holes and blind holes without the risk of jamming
The M18x1.5 HSSE machine tap is used in steel structures, industrial welding, and the production of industrial automation components. The M18x1.5 machine tap for through and blind holes is compatible with automatic tool change systems. The tap drill diameter for the M18x1.5 thread is 16.5 mm.

Frequently asked questions
The M18x1.5 HSSE tap with form C and straight flutes is versatile – it is suitable for both through and blind holes. The design ensures proper chip evacuation in both types of holes.
The M18x1.5 HSSE tap cuts internal threads to tolerance class 6H. The 6H designation defines the permissible deviations of the thread pitch and minor diameters – the digit 6 indicates the width of the tolerance zone (medium), while the letter H indicates the position of the zone at the zero line. The 6H tolerance ensures a proper fit with screws of tolerance class 6g.
When tapping stainless steels, an EP emulsion at a minimum concentration of 8% or tapping oil is recommended for cooling. Cooling extends tool life by a factor of 2-3 and improves the thread surface finish.
