Die M16x1 left-hand HSS DIN 22 568 – left-hand extra-fine threading on medium cross sections
The M16x1 left-hand threading die is a specialized round die for cutting external left-hand threads with a diameter of 16 mm and an ultra-fine pitch of 1 mm. Manufactured from high-speed steel (HSS) hardened to 64 HRC in accordance with DIN 22 568, it provides high dimensional accuracy in precision applications. The M16x1 left-hand metric die is designed for machining structural steels with a tensile strength of up to 800 MPa and nonferrous alloys.

The die is used in precision hydraulics, clockwise-rotating spindles, and wherever self-locking protection with maximum strength is required. Class 6g ensures compatibility with 6H left-hand nuts. Precision engineering workshops use the M16x1 left-hand die in the production of high-pressure hydraulic components, precision grinding machine spindles, and wherever the priority is the absolute highest number of threads with protection against loosening in rotating equipment.
Frequently asked questions
M16x1 has 50 percent more threads per unit length than M16x1.5, resulting in significantly higher mechanical strength, better leak tightness, and a larger load-bearing surface area. A pitch of 1 mm is used in critical applications requiring the absolute maximum reliability with a limited engagement length.
The outside diameter of the rod should be 15.82-15.92 mm in accordance with tolerance 6g per DIN 22 568. Chamfer the end of the rod at 45° over a length of 4 mm before starting to cut the left-hand thread.
Prepare a rod of the appropriate diameter and chamfer the end at 45°. Clamp it very securely in a vise that prevents vibration and guide the die perpendicular to the axis while turning counterclockwise. Reverse half a turn after each full turn and apply generous lubrication with specialized threading oil.
