Die M27x1.5 left-hand HSS DIN 22 568 – left-hand metric fine thread for specialized applications
The M27x1.5 left-hand die is a specialized round tool made of high-speed steel (HSS) with a hardness of 64 HRC, combining a diameter of 27 mm with a left-hand metric fine thread with a pitch of 1.5 mm. This combination is used in rotating machines where the direction of rotation during operation requires a left-hand thread, while enhanced vibration resistance from a fine pitch is also needed. Compliance with DIN 22 568 and a tolerance of 6g ensure proper mating with left-hand 6H nuts. This tool is intended for workshops servicing the machinery industry, rotating equipment, and structures requiring left-hand threads with enhanced reliability.
Main advantages of the M27x1.5 left-hand fine-thread die
- Left-hand fine thread at a diameter of 27 mm – the combination of a left-hand direction and fine pitch provides dual protection against unscrewing and vibration-induced loosening
- 27 mm diameter for industrial applications – a size found in gearboxes, rotating machines, and industrial equipment requiring a left-hand thread with additional properties
- Fine pitch of 1.5 mm – increases the load-bearing area of the joint and improves resistance to vibratory loads in rotating equipment exposed to vibration
- HSS steel hardness of 64 HRC – ensures long service life when cutting left-hand metric fine threads in structural steels up to 800 MPa
- Solid round construction – one-piece construction provides the rigidity required for left-hand threading with a fine pitch
The M27x1.5 left-hand die is a solution for machine shops servicing rotating machines, gearboxes, and industrial equipment where the direction of rotation requires a left-hand thread and operating conditions also require a fine pitch for maximum reliability. Due to these characteristics (left-hand + fine pitch), threading requires a highly skilled operator and intensive lubrication with dedicated lubricants.
Frequently asked questions
Prepare the rod (diameter 26.6-26.65 mm) with a 45° chamfer. Clamp it securely to eliminate vibration. Turn the die to the left (counterclockwise), making two forward turns, then back off half a turn clockwise to remove chips. When cutting a left-hand metric fine thread, check squareness regularly.
Use threading oils or cooling and lubricating emulsions applied generously before starting and every 2-3 turns. Left-hand metric fine threading requires intensive lubrication – at a pitch of 1.5 mm, a large amount of chips is generated, requiring a continuous supply of lubricant for smooth operation and cutting edge protection.
Backing off a left-hand thread requires clockwise rotation. Immediately turn clockwise to withdraw the die safely. Clean the flutes very thoroughly with compressed air and check the rod diameter with a micrometer. Resume with more intensive lubrication and more frequent backing off – for a left-hand metric fine thread, every 1.5 turn instead of every 2.
