Die M38x1.5 left-hand HSS DIN 22 568 – left-hand fine thread for industrial applications
The M38x1.5 left-hand die is a specialized round tool made of high-speed steel (HSS) with a hardness of 64 HRC, combining a diameter of 38 mm with a left-hand fine thread with a pitch of 1.5 mm. This combination is used in rotating machinery where the operating direction of rotation requires a left-hand thread and increased vibration resistance is also required through a fine pitch. Compliance with DIN 22 568 and a tolerance of 6g ensure proper fit with 6H left-hand nuts. This tool is intended for workshops serving the machinery industry, rotating equipment, and assemblies requiring left-hand threads with enhanced reliability at medium sizes.
Key benefits of the M38x1.5 left-hand fine-thread die
- Left-hand fine thread at a diameter of 38 mm – combining a left-hand direction with a fine pitch provides dual protection: mechanical protection against unscrewing and design-based protection against vibration-induced loosening
- Diameter of 38 mm for industrial applications – a size used in gearboxes, rotating machinery, and industrial equipment requiring a left-hand thread with the additional properties of a fine thread
- Fine pitch of 1.5 mm – increases the load-bearing area of the joint and improves resistance to vibratory loads in rotating equipment exposed to vibration
- HSS steel hardness of 64 HRC – ensures long service life when cutting left-hand metric fine threads in structural steels up to 800 MPa
- Solid round construction – the one-piece construction provides the rigidity required for left-hand threading of medium diameters with a fine pitch
The M38x1.5 left-hand die is a solution for machine shops servicing rotating machinery, gearboxes, and industrial equipment where the direction of rotation requires a left-hand thread and operating conditions additionally require a fine thread for maximum reliability. Due to this combination (left-hand + fine thread), threading requires a highly skilled operator and intensive lubrication with products specifically designed for fine threads.
Frequently asked questions
Prepare a rod (diameter 37.6-37.65 mm) with a 45° chamfer. Clamp it securely to eliminate vibration. Turn the die to the left (counterclockwise), making two turns forward, then back it off half a turn to the right to remove chips. When cutting a left-hand fine thread, check perpendicularity regularly and use secure clamping.
Use threading oils or cooling and lubricating emulsions, applying them generously before starting and every 2-3 turns. A left-hand fine thread requires intensive lubrication – a pitch of 1.5 mm generates a large number of chips, requiring a continuous supply of lubricant for smooth left-hand thread cutting.
Backing off a left-hand thread requires clockwise rotation. Immediately turn clockwise to withdraw the die safely. Clean the flutes very thoroughly with compressed air and check the rod diameter with a micrometer. Resume with more intensive lubrication and more frequent backing off – for a left-hand metric fine thread, every 1.5 turn instead of every 2.
