Where chips remain in a straight-flute tap
The flute holds the chips until the tap is reversed out
The straight flute runs parallel to the tap axis. There is no helix to carry chips upward. The chamfer cutting edges are not ground at an angle, so they do not push chips downward. Short chips break into fragments and remain in the flute, next to the cutting edges that produced them. They leave the hole only when the tap is backed out. The M16x1.75 tap has a reduced shank to DIN 374: diameter 12 mm, square size 9 mm.
M16x1.75 INOX machine tap – with a metric fine thread
The HSSE series designed for manufacturing engineers and CNC operators working with precision connections includes the M16x1.75 INOX machine tap for metric fine threads. The 6H tolerance in accordance with DIN 374 guarantees the dimensional repeatability required in the manufacture of hydraulic and pneumatic components with stringent leak-tightness requirements. The thread pitch of 1.75 mm provides an intermediate option between coarse and fine threads, combining high load capacity with ease of assembly. Its HSSE steel construction with 5% cobalt guarantees a hardness of 66 HRC and long cutting edge life in stainless steels.
Key features of the M16x1.75 INOX tap
- Manufacturing precision to 6H tolerance ensures dimensional repeatability and full thread interchangeability in series production of mechanical and hydraulic components
- Compliance with DIN 374 for fine threads confirms quality and ensures standardized shank dimensions compatible with European holders
- Designed for stainless steels of austenitic grades 304 and 316, structural steels up to 800 MPa, and aluminum alloys and engineering brass
- Durability thanks to HSSE steel with 5% cobalt allows 350-500 threads to be produced in structural steel with proper lubrication using tapping oil
- Compatibility with ER32 holders and tapping heads for CNC machining centers with synchronous tapping capability and axial compensation
- M16x1.75 general-purpose machine tap with form C directs chips correctly in both through holes and blind holes without the risk of jamming
The M16x1.75 machine tap for through and blind holes is used in maintenance departments for thread restoration and production machinery repairs. The M16x1.75 HSSE machine tap is compatible with automatic tool change systems. The tap drill diameter is 14.25 mm.

Frequently asked questions
The M16x1.75 HSSE tap with form C and straight flutes is versatile – it is suitable for both through and blind holes. The design ensures proper chip evacuation in both types of holes.
The M16x1.75 HSSE tap cuts internal threads to tolerance class 6H. The 6H designation defines the permissible deviations of the thread pitch and minor diameters – the digit 6 indicates the width of the tolerance zone (medium), while the letter H indicates the position of the zone at the zero line. The 6H tolerance ensures a proper fit with screws of tolerance class 6g.
When tapping stainless steels, an EP emulsion at a minimum concentration of 8% or tapping oil is recommended for cooling. Cooling extends tool life by a factor of 2-3 and improves the thread surface finish.
