Where chips remain in a straight-flute tap

The flute holds the chips until the tap is reversed out

The straight flute runs parallel to the tap axis. There is no helix to carry chips upward. The chamfer cutting edges are not ground at an angle, so they do not push chips downward. Short chips break into fragments and remain in the flute, next to the cutting edges that produced them. They leave the hole only when the tap is backed out. The M16x0.75 tap has a reduced shank to DIN 374: diameter 12 mm, square size 9 mm.

M16x0.75 DIN 374 tap – diagram of chip movement and rotation direction during tapping
1
Straight flute – chips remain in the flute, next to the cutting edges that produced them.
2
Chamfer C: 2–3 incomplete threads on the tapered lead.
3
The tap rotates clockwise to cut a right-hand thread.
4
Individual fragments exit at the top, onto the workpiece surface.
5
A few fragments fall below the tip and exit through the bottom of the hole.
6
Feed 0.75 mm/rev, equal to the pitch of the M16x0.75 thread.

M16x0.75 INOX machine tap – for stainless steel

The M16x0.75 INOX machine tap is a professional tool for cutting M16 internal metric fine threads with a pitch of 0.75 mm in stainless and structural steels. HSSE high-speed steel construction with 5% cobalt provides a hardness of 66 HRC and high heat resistance up to 650°C in the cutting zone. Form C with straight flutes allows tapping of both through and blind holes without changing tools. The 6H tolerance according to DIN 374 ensures dimensional repeatability. The M16x0.75 HSSE machine tap is intended for toolrooms and CNC machining center operators.

Key benefits of the M16x0.75 INOX tap

  • Durability and heat resistance thanks to HSSE steel with 5% cobalt, which retains its cutting properties at temperatures up to 650°C in the contact zone with the workpiece material
  • Compliance with DIN 374 for metric fine threads confirms standardized dimensions and full compatibility with European toolholding systems
  • Precision to tolerance class 6H guarantees the dimensional accuracy required in the production of pneumatic components and high-quality industrial valves and fittings
  • Compatibility with ER32 holders and tapping chucks with axial compensation for synchronous tapping on CNC and conventional machines
  • Pitch 0.75 mm provides the maximum number of threads per unit length, increasing connection tightness and thread load capacity in precision components
  • M16x0.75 general-purpose machine tap with form C evacuates chips properly in through holes and blind holes without the risk of thread damage

The M16x0.75 machine tap for through and blind holes is used in the production of industrial fittings and pneumatic components requiring leak-tight threaded joints. Cooling with an EP emulsion at a minimum concentration of 8% extends tool life by a factor of 2-3 compared with dry machining. The tap drill diameter for the M16x0.75 thread is 15.25 mm.

Frequently asked questions

The M16x0.75 HSSE tap with form C and straight flutes is versatile – it is suitable for both through and blind holes. The design ensures proper chip evacuation in both types of holes.

The M16x0.75 HSSE tap cuts internal threads to tolerance class 6H. The 6H designation defines the permissible deviations of the thread pitch and minor diameters – the digit 6 indicates the width of the tolerance zone (medium), while the letter H indicates the position of the zone at the zero line. The 6H tolerance ensures a proper fit with screws of tolerance class 6g.

When tapping stainless steels, an EP emulsion at a minimum concentration of 8% or tapping oil is recommended for cooling. Cooling extends tool life by a factor of 2-3 and improves the thread surface finish.
