The M12x0.5 left-hand metric die is an advanced round die for cutting external left-hand threads with a diameter of 12 mm and an ultra-fine pitch of 0.5 mm. Made from high-speed steel (HSS) hardened to 64 HRC, compliant with DIN 22 568, it provides the highest dimensional precision in applications requiring reverse-direction threads. The outside diameter of the rod should be 11.88-11.92 mm in accordance with tolerance 6g per DIN 22 568. Material preparation requires particular precision - the rod must be clamped very securely and its leading end chamfered at 45° over a length of 3 mm.
Chamfer the end of the rod at 45°, secure the workpiece in a precision vise that prevents any vibration, and guide the die perpendicular to the axis. Turn counterclockwise very gently, reverse half a turn after each turn, and apply generous lubrication with specialized precision threading oil.
