Frequently asked questions
Prepare the rod (diameter 81.6-81.65 mm) with a machined chamfer. Due to the extremely large diameter, a professional mechanical drive of the heaviest class is absolutely mandatory. Turn to the left (counterclockwise), making one to two turns forward and half a turn back to the right. The process requires a full team of at least 3 operators under the supervision of a certified team leader experienced in extremely large left-hand threads.
Use top-quality threading oils for the heaviest-duty applications or industrial emulsions applied extremely generously with every turn. A left-hand fine thread at a diameter of 82 mm requires the most intensive lubrication possible – a pitch of 1.5 mm generates an enormous volume of chips under extreme forces. A professional, top-grade automatic high-pressure lubrication system with full parameter control is mandatory.
Remember that backing off a left-hand thread requires clockwise rotation. At an extreme diameter of 82 mm, problems are exceptionally dangerous and costly. Immediately stop all systems in accordance with the full safety protocol, and back off the die by turning clockwise in reverse mode under complete control of the automation system and the entire team. Check all parameters very carefully. Resume only with the highest backing-off frequency (every 0.75-1 turns) and fresh lubrication after full verification by a certified team of engineers with many years of experience with extremely large left-hand fine threads.
