M14x1.25 HSS DIN 22 568 die – metric fine thread tool for precision joints

The M14x1.25 die is a professional round tool made of high-speed steel (HSS) with a hardness of 64 HRC, designed for cutting external metric fine threads with a diameter of 14 mm and a pitch of 1.25 mm. At this diameter, the fine thread provides increased vibration resistance and higher fatigue strength compared with the standard M14x2. A design compliant with DIN 22 568 and a 6g tolerance guarantee proper mating with 6H nuts in applications requiring stable threaded joints. This tool is ideal for the automotive industry, precision machinery, and wherever joints must resist self-loosening under vibration.

Why choose the M14x1.25 metric fine thread die

  • Fine thread with a 1.25 mm pitch – a pitch finer than the standard 2 mm increases the load-bearing area and improves resistance to vibration loads in dynamic applications
  • Diameter of 14 mm for versatile applications – a popular size in the automotive industry, precision engineering, and machinery requiring reliable joints
  • High-speed steel HSS 64 HRC – provides long service life when cutting threads in structural steels up to 800 MPa, aluminum, and brass
  • 6g tolerance according to ISO – standard accuracy grade with controlled clearance allows easy nut installation without binding
  • Solid round construction – the unsplit design eliminates dimensional errors and ensures repeatability in series production

The M14x1.25 die is a tool chosen by machine shops, maintenance departments, and production facilities specializing in components subject to dynamic loads. It is particularly recommended for cutting threads on rods, pins, and shafts in the automotive industry and precision machinery. Use with threading lubricants is recommended to achieve a smooth surface and extend cutting edge life.

Frequently asked questions

Prepare the rod (diameter 13.7-13.75 mm) with a carefully chamfered end. Clamp it securely and position the die strictly perpendicular. Follow this sequence: two turns forward, half a turn backward. With a fine pitch of 1.25 mm, frequent reversing to remove chips and regular lubrication every 3-4 turns are particularly important.

For structural steels, use threading oil or machine oil, applied before starting and replenished every few turns. Kerosene mixed with oil works well for aluminum. A fine thread requires slightly more intensive lubrication than a standard thread – apply every 3 turns to keep the process running smoothly.

Causes: insufficient reversing, a lack of lubricant, or an oversized rod diameter. Stop immediately, unscrew the die completely, and clean the flutes with a brush or compressed air. Verify the rod diameter with a micrometer. Resume with generous lubrication and more frequent reversing – for fine threads, every 1.5 turn instead of every 2.
