The nominal diameter is 0.4 mm. The 118° point angle promotes reliable entry into the material, while ground helical flutes ensure continuous chip evacuation during right-hand cutting. The homogeneous high-speed steel (HSS) core provides high wear resistance, helping maintain a sharp cutting edge. The length conforms to DIN 338 (jobber length), supporting good setup rigidity; in practice, dimensional stability is demonstrated by a Ø0.4 mm drill bit for steel at high spindle speeds, with micrometer-scale feed, precise clamping, and emulsion or oil mist cooling.
