Where chips remain in a straight-flute tap
The flute holds the chips until the tap is reversed out
The straight flute runs parallel to the tap axis. There is no helix to carry chips upward. The chamfer cutting edges are not ground at an angle, so they do not push chips downward. Short chips break into fragments and remain in the flute, next to the cutting edges that produced them. They leave the hole only when the tap is backed out. The M27x1 tap has a reduced shank to DIN 374: diameter 20 mm, square size 16 mm.
M27x1 INOX machine tap – for through and blind holes
The Fra M27x1 INOX machine tap is designed for precision tapping of holes with a diameter of 27 mm and a fine pitch of 1 mm in stainless and structural steels. Made from HSSE high-speed steel with 5% cobalt, it guarantees a hardness of 66 HRC and long cutting edge life even when machining difficult-to-machine materials. Form C with straight flutes provides versatile use in through holes and blind holes. The 6H tolerance in accordance with DIN 374 confirms high manufacturing quality. The M27x1 HSSE machine tap is intended for series production departments.
Key features of the M27x1 general-purpose HSSE tap
- Manufacturing precision to 6H tolerance ensures dimensional repeatability and full thread interchangeability in series production of mechanical and hydraulic components
- Compliance with DIN 374 for fine threads confirms quality and ensures standardized shank dimensions compatible with European holders
- Durability increased by the addition of 5% cobalt allows operation at temperatures up to 650°C without loss of cutting edge performance
- Material versatility covering austenitic stainless steels 304 and 316, structural steels up to 800 MPa, gray and ductile cast iron, and aluminum alloys
- Compatibility with ER32 holders and tapping heads for CNC machining centers with synchronous tapping and automatic tool changing
- M27x1 machine tap for through and blind holes with form C allows both hole types to be tapped with a single tool without the risk of jamming
The Fra M27x1 general-purpose machine tap is used in steel structures and industrial welding applications requiring durable threaded connections. European manufacturing quality guarantees long service life. The tap drill diameter for the M27x1 thread is 26 mm.

Frequently asked questions
With proper cooling and lubrication, the M27x1 HSSE tap cuts 400-600 threads in structural steel or 250-350 threads in stainless steel. Dry operation reduces tool life by 40-50%.
Yes, the M27x1 HSSE tap with 5% cobalt is designed for austenitic stainless steels 304 and 316. The addition of cobalt increases heat resistance in the cutting zone to 650°C.
An HSSE tap contains 5% cobalt, which increases hardness from 64 to 66 HRC and heat resistance to 650°C. HSSE is suitable for stainless steels, while HSS is suitable only for structural steels up to 800 MPa.
