Where chips remain in a straight-flute tap
The flute holds the chips until the tap is reversed out
The straight flute runs parallel to the tap axis. There is no helix to carry chips upward. The chamfer cutting edges are not ground at an angle, so they do not push chips downward. Short chips break into fragments and remain in the flute, next to the cutting edges that produced them. They leave the hole only when the tap is backed out. The M10x1 tap has a reduced shank to DIN 374: diameter 7 mm, square size 5.5 mm.
M10x1 INOX machine tap – for stainless steel
The M10x1 INOX machine tap is a professional tool for cutting internal M10 threads with a fine pitch of 1 mm in stainless and structural steels. Made from HSSE high-speed steel with 5% cobalt, it provides a hardness of 66 HRC and high heat resistance up to 650°C in the cutting zone. Form C with straight flutes allows tapping of both through holes and blind holes without changing tools. The 6H tolerance in accordance with DIN 374 guarantees dimensional repeatability. The M10x1 HSSE machine tap is intended for toolrooms and precision manufacturing departments.
Key benefits of the M10x1 INOX tap
- Durability and heat resistance thanks to HSSE steel with 5% cobalt, which retains its cutting properties at temperatures up to 650°C in the contact zone with the material
- Compliance with DIN 374 for metric fine threads confirms standardized dimensions and full interchangeability with tools from European manufacturers
- Precision to tolerance class 6H guarantees the dimensional accuracy required in the production of pneumatic components and high-quality industrial valves and fittings
- Compatibility with ER16 holders and tapping chucks with axial compensation for synchronous tapping on CNC and conventional machines
- Pitch 1 mm provides increased load capacity of the threaded connection and improved resistance to self-loosening under vibration and dynamic loads
- M10x1 general-purpose machine tap with form C evacuates chips properly in through holes and blind holes without the risk of thread damage
The M10x1 machine tap for through holes and blind holes is used in the production of industrial valves and fittings and pneumatic components requiring leak-tight connections. Cooling with an EP emulsion at a minimum concentration of 8% extends tool life by a factor of 2-3. The tap drill diameter for the M10x1 thread is 9 mm.

Frequently asked questions
With proper cooling and lubrication, the M10x1 HSSE tap cuts 400-600 threads in structural steel or 250-350 threads in stainless steel. Dry operation reduces tool life by 40-50%.
Yes, the M10x1 HSSE tap with 5% cobalt is designed for austenitic stainless steels 304 and 316. The addition of cobalt increases heat resistance in the cutting zone to 650°C.
An HSSE tap contains 5% cobalt, which increases hardness from 64 to 66 HRC and heat resistance to 650°C. HSSE is suitable for stainless steels, while HSS is suitable only for structural steels up to 800 MPa.
