Where chips remain in a straight-flute tap
The flute holds the chips until the tap is reversed out
The straight flute runs parallel to the tap axis. There is no helix to carry chips upward. The chamfer cutting edges are not ground at an angle, so they do not push chips downward. Short chips break into fragments and remain in the flute, next to the cutting edges that produced them. They leave the hole only when the tap is backed out. The M24x1.5 tap has a reduced shank to DIN 374: diameter 18 mm, square size 14.5 mm.
M24x1.5 INOX machine tap – tool for precision tapping
The M24x1.5 INOX machine tap is a professional tool for cutting M24 internal threads with a fine pitch of 1.5 mm in stainless and structural steels. HSSE high-speed steel construction with 5% cobalt provides a hardness of 66 HRC and high resistance to cutting zone temperatures up to 650°C. Form C with straight flutes allows both through and blind holes to be tapped without changing tools. The 6H tolerance in accordance with DIN 374 guarantees dimensional repeatability and full interchangeability with threads cut using other tools of this class. The M24x1.5 HSSE machine tap is intended for toolrooms and CNC machining center operators.
Key benefits of the M24x1.5 INOX tap
- Durability and heat resistance thanks to HSSE steel with 5% cobalt, which retains its cutting properties at temperatures up to 650°C in the contact zone with the workpiece material
- Precision to tolerance class 6H according to DIN 374 ensures the dimensional accuracy required in series production of mechanical components and threaded connections
- Compliance with DIN 374 for metric fine threads confirms standardized dimensions and full compatibility with European toolholding systems
- Material versatility covering austenitic stainless steels 304 and 316, structural steels up to 800 MPa, aluminum, and GGG40 ductile cast iron
- Compatibility with ER32 holders and tapping chucks with axial compensation for synchronous tapping on CNC and conventional machines
- Suitable for through holes and blind holes thanks to form C with straight flutes, which ensures proper chip evacuation in both hole types
The M24x1.5 general-purpose machine tap is used in automotive series production and on assembly lines requiring high repeatability. The M24x1.5 machine tap for through and blind holes is compatible with ER32 holders and collets. The tap drill diameter for the M24x1.5 thread is 22.5 mm.

Frequently asked questions
With proper cooling and lubrication, the M24x1.5 HSSE tap cuts 400-600 threads in structural steel or 250-350 threads in stainless steel. Dry operation reduces tool life by 40-50%.
Yes, the M24x1.5 HSSE tap with 5% cobalt is designed for austenitic stainless steels 304 and 316. The addition of cobalt increases heat resistance in the cutting zone to 650°C.
An HSSE tap contains 5% cobalt, which increases hardness from 64 to 66 HRC and heat resistance to 650°C. HSSE is suitable for stainless steels, while HSS is suitable only for structural steels up to 800 MPa.
