Where chips remain in a straight-flute tap
The flute holds the chips until the tap is reversed out
The straight flute runs parallel to the tap axis. There is no helix to carry chips upward. The chamfer cutting edges are not ground at an angle, so they do not push chips downward. Short chips break into fragments and remain in the flute, next to the cutting edges that produced them. They leave the hole only when the tap is backed out. The M36x2 tap has a reduced shank to DIN 374: diameter 28 mm, square size 22 mm.
M36x2 INOX machine tap – general-purpose HSSE tool
The HSSE series, designed for manufacturing engineers and CNC operators working with metric fine threads, includes the M36x2 INOX machine tap with a pitch of 2 mm. The 6H tolerance in accordance with DIN 374 guarantees the dimensional repeatability required in the production of hydraulic and pneumatic components with stringent sealing requirements. The thread pitch of 2 mm provides an optimum balance between sealing and ease of assembly. Its HSSE steel construction with 5% cobalt guarantees a hardness of 66 HRC and long cutting edge life in stainless and difficult-to-machine steels.
Key features of the M36x2 tap for through and blind holes
- Compliance with DIN 374 for metric fine threads ensures standardized dimensions and full interchangeability with tools from European tool manufacturers
- Designed for stainless steels of austenitic grades 304 and 316, structural steels up to 800 MPa, and aluminum alloys and engineering brass
- Precision of the 6H tolerance required in the production of hydraulic housings, valve blocks, and components for high-pressure industrial valves and fittings
- Durability thanks to HSSE steel with 5% cobalt allows 350-500 threads to be produced in structural steel with proper lubrication using tapping oil
- Compatibility with ER40 holders and tapping heads for CNC machining centers with synchronous tapping and axial compensation
- M36x2 general-purpose machine tap with form C directs chips correctly in both through holes and blind holes without the risk of jamming
The M36x2 HSSE machine tap is designed for machining hydraulic power components and industrial valves and fittings. The M36x2 machine tap for through holes and blind holes is not recommended for hardened steels above 45 HRC. The tap drill diameter is 34 mm.

Frequently asked questions
With proper cooling and lubrication, the M36x2 HSSE tap cuts 400-600 threads in structural steel or 250-350 threads in stainless steel. Dry operation reduces tool life by 40-50%.
Yes, the M36x2 HSSE tap with 5% cobalt is designed for austenitic stainless steels 304 and 316. The addition of cobalt increases heat resistance in the cutting zone to 650°C.
An HSSE tap contains 5% cobalt, which increases hardness from 64 to 66 HRC and heat resistance to 650°C. HSSE is suitable for stainless steels, while HSS is suitable only for structural steels up to 800 MPa.
