Where chips remain in a straight-flute tap
The flute holds the chips until the tap is reversed out
The straight flute runs parallel to the tap axis. There is no helix to carry chips upward. The chamfer cutting edges are not ground at an angle, so they do not push chips downward. Short chips break into fragments and remain in the flute, next to the cutting edges that produced them. They leave the hole only when the tap is backed out. The M36x1.5 tap has a reduced shank to DIN 374: diameter 28 mm, square size 22 mm.
M36x1.5 INOX machine tap – for through and blind holes
This HSSE series model, designed for cutting M36x1.5 metric fine threads in stainless and structural steels, features a pitch of 1.5 mm. The M36x1.5 INOX machine tap provides an increased number of threads per unit length, ensuring higher connection load capacity and improved sealing. With 5% cobalt, the tool maintains a hardness of 66 HRC even at cutting zone temperatures up to 650°C. Form C with straight flutes provides versatile use. The M36x1.5 machine tap for through holes and blind holes is intended for manufacturers of hydraulic and pneumatic components.
Key advantages of the M36x1.5 HSSE general-purpose tap
- Fine pitch of 1.5 mm provides an increased number of threads per unit length, improving connection tightness and load capacity in hydraulic components
- Material versatility covering 304 and 316 austenitic stainless steels, structural steels up to 800 MPa, GGG40 ductile cast iron, and aluminum alloys
- Compatibility with ER40 holders and collets for precise clamping on machining centers with axial compensation and automatic tool changing
- Precision to tolerance class 6H for demanding fit tolerances in series production of high-precision mechanical and hydraulic components
- Compliance with DIN 374 for fine threads ensures standardized shank dimensions and interchangeability with tools from European manufacturers
- M36x1.5 HSSE machine tap with form C allows tapping of through holes and blind holes without changing the tool or parameters
The M36x1.5 general-purpose machine tap is used in series production of hydraulic power components and industrial valves and fittings. Cooling with an EP emulsion at a minimum concentration of 8% extends tool life. The tap drill diameter for the M36x1.5 thread is 34.5 mm.

Frequently asked questions
The M36x1.5 HSSE tap with form C and straight flutes is versatile – it is suitable for both through and blind holes. The design ensures proper chip evacuation in both types of holes.
The M36x1.5 HSSE tap cuts internal threads to tolerance class 6H. The 6H designation defines the permissible deviations of the thread pitch and minor diameters – the digit 6 indicates the width of the tolerance zone (medium), while the letter H indicates the position of the zone at the zero line. The 6H tolerance ensures a proper fit with screws of tolerance class 6g.
When tapping stainless steels, an EP emulsion at a minimum concentration of 8% or tapping oil is recommended for cooling. Cooling extends tool life by a factor of 2-3 and improves the thread surface finish.
