Where chips remain in a straight-flute tap
The flute holds the chips until the tap is reversed out
The straight flute runs parallel to the tap axis. There is no helix to carry chips upward. The chamfer cutting edges are not ground at an angle, so they do not push chips downward. Short chips break into fragments and remain in the flute, next to the cutting edges that produced them. They leave the hole only when the tap is backed out. The M25x1 tap has a reduced shank to DIN 374: diameter 18 mm, square size 14.5 mm.
M25x1 INOX machine tap – compliant with DIN 374
This model from the Fra HSSE series is designed to cut M25x1 metric fine threads in stainless and structural steels and features a nonstandard diameter of 25 mm. The M25x1 INOX machine tap features the maximum number of threads per unit length at a pitch of 1 mm, providing the highest connection sealing performance. With 5% added cobalt, the tool retains a hardness of 66 HRC even at temperatures up to 650°C in the cutting zone. Form C with straight flutes provides versatile use. The M25x1 HSSE machine tap is intended for manufacturers of hydraulic and pneumatic components.
Key benefits of the M25x1 INOX Fra tap
- Material versatility covering 304 and 316 austenitic stainless steels, structural steels up to 800 MPa, GGG40 ductile cast iron, and 6000 series aluminum alloys
- Durability increased by the addition of cobalt in HSSE steel allows 400-600 threads to be cut in structural steel with proper oil emulsion cooling
- Compatibility with ER32 holders and collets for precise clamping on machining centers with axial compensation and automatic tool changing
- Precision to tolerance class 6H for demanding fit tolerances in series production of mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic components
- Compliance with DIN 374 for fine threads ensures standardized shank dimensions and interchangeability with tools from European manufacturers
- M25x1 general-purpose machine tap with form C allows tapping of through holes and blind holes without changing the tool or parameters
The M25x1 machine tap for through and blind holes from Fra is used in toolrooms and prototype shops for one-off and small-batch production of precision components. Cooling with an EP emulsion at a minimum concentration of 8% or with tapping oil extends tool life by a factor of 2-3. The tap drill diameter for the M25x1 thread is 24 mm.

Frequently asked questions
The M25x1 HSSE tap with form C and straight flutes is versatile – it is suitable for both through and blind holes. The design ensures proper chip evacuation in both types of holes.
The M25x1 HSSE tap cuts internal threads to tolerance class 6H. The 6H designation defines the permissible deviations of the thread pitch and minor diameters – the digit 6 indicates the width of the tolerance zone (medium), while the letter H indicates the position of the zone at the zero line. The 6H tolerance ensures a proper fit with screws of tolerance class 6g.
When tapping stainless steels, an EP emulsion at a minimum concentration of 8% or tapping oil is recommended for cooling. Cooling extends tool life by a factor of 2-3 and improves the thread surface finish.
