Ø24 mm reduced-shank HSS metal drill bit – a tool for industrial plants
Industrial reduced-shank drill bit with a diameter of 24 mm made of high-speed steel (HSS) features a shank reduced to a diameter of 12.7 mm (half an inch). The reduced-shank design allows installation in standard chucks without additional adapters. The tool is developed for maintenance departments, series production, and specialized machine shops.
Key specifications of the Varel Ø24 mm drill bit
- 1/2-inch reduced shank – ensures compatibility with stationary drilling machines and magnetic drills without sleeves
- IT11 manufacturing tolerance per ISO 286-1 – ensures hole accuracy of ±105 µm, sufficient for typical industrial assembly operations
- Finish grinding – reduces cutting forces by one quarter and improves the quality of machined surfaces
- For use in materials up to 35 HRC – optimal for machining S235 and S355 steel grades, cast iron, and nonferrous metals
- Varel brand product – European quality standards in metalworking tools
The reduced-shank geometry addresses the problem of matching the diameter to drilling equipment. The polished surface limits heat buildup during machining, allowing high productivity to be maintained in continuous production and industrial repair operations.
Frequently asked questions
This HSS drill bit performs well in S235 and S355 structural steels with a maximum hardness of 35 HRC, as well as cast iron, aluminum and its alloys, and brass. It must not be used to machine hardened steels exceeding 35 HRC or high-chromium austenitic grades.
Using suitable coolant with larger-diameter drill bits is essential for process efficiency. Proper lubrication and cooling extend tool life by up to 60 percent and improve the dimensional accuracy and surface finish of holes.
In S235 materials, the optimal spindle speed is 185-265 rpm, while for S355 steel this range decreases to 145-205 rpm. Exceeding these values causes excessive heat generation and accelerated wear of the drill's cutting edges.
