Where chips remain in a straight-flute tap
The flute holds the chips until the tap is reversed out
The straight flute runs parallel to the tap axis. There is no helix to carry chips upward. The chamfer cutting edges are not ground at an angle, so they do not push chips downward. Short chips break into fragments and remain in the flute, next to the cutting edges that produced them. They leave the hole only when the tap is backed out. The M7 x1 tap has a reduced shank to DIN 376: diameter 6 mm, square size 4.9 mm.
M7 INOX machine tap – versatile HSSE tool
This model from the Fra HSSE series, with a long shank according to DIN 376, is designed for cutting M7 metric threads in stainless and structural steels and features increased rigidity. The M7 INOX machine tap features a reinforced straight shank that eliminates vibration at high spindle speeds on machining centers. With 5% cobalt, the tool maintains a hardness of 66 HRC even at temperatures up to 650°C in the cutting zone. Form C with straight flutes provides versatile use. The M7 machine tap for through and blind holes is intended for manufacturers of precision components.
Key advantages of the M7 tap for through and blind holes
- Long shank to DIN 376 provides increased clamping rigidity and eliminates vibration at high spindle speeds on CNC machines
- Material versatility covering 304 and 316 austenitic stainless steels, structural steels up to 800 MPa, GGG40 ductile cast iron, and aluminum alloys
- Compatibility with ER16 holders and collets for precise clamping on machining centers with axial compensation and automatic tool changing
- Precision to tolerance class 6H for demanding fit tolerances in series production of high-precision mechanical components
- Compliance with DIN 376 ensures standardized long shank dimensions and interchangeability with tools from European manufacturers
- M7 HSSE machine tap with form C allows tapping of through holes and blind holes without changing the tool or parameters
The Fra M7 general-purpose machine tap is used in series production on CNC machining centers requiring stable operation at high speeds. European manufacturing quality ensures reliability. The tap drill diameter for the M7 thread is 6 mm.

Frequently asked questions
The M7 HSSE tap with form C and straight flutes is universal – suitable for both through holes and blind holes. Its design ensures proper chip evacuation in both hole types.
The M7 HSSE tap produces an internal thread to tolerance class 6H. The designation 6H specifies the permissible deviations of the thread pitch and minor diameters – the digit 6 indicates the tolerance zone width (medium), and the letter H indicates the position of the zone at the zero line. Tolerance 6H ensures proper fit with screws to tolerance 6g.
When tapping stainless steels, an EP emulsion at a minimum concentration of 8% or tapping oil is recommended for cooling. Cooling extends tool life by a factor of 2-3 and improves the thread surface finish.
