How the type B through-hole chamfer pushes chips down the hole

Chips exit at the bottom instead of returning through the thread

The form B chamfer for through holes has a chip breaker at the front of the tap – an angled cut in the cutting edges. The chip breaker directs chips down the hole, ahead of the tap tip. The chips curl into a spiral, break into short pieces, and exit the hole on the other side of the workpiece. The threads already cut remain clean because chips do not pass through them on the way up. The M6x0.75 tap has a reinforced shank according to DIN 371: diameter 6 mm, square 4.9 mm.

M6x0.75 left-hand DIN 371 tap – diagram of chip movement and rotation direction during tapping
1
Straight flute – chips do not enter it; the flute carries lubricant to the cutting edges.
2
The chip breaker at the tip of the tap directs chips down the hole.
3
The tap rotates counterclockwise – this is how it cuts a left-hand thread.
4
B chamfer: 3.5–5.5 incomplete threads on the entry taper.
5
The chips break into segments: individual pieces at the top of the hole, with progressively more farther down. They fall out below the workpiece.
6
Feed 0.75 mm/rev, equal to the pitch of the M6x0.75 thread.

M6x0.75 left-hand fine-thread machine tap – Fra HSSE for precision engineering

The Fra M6x0.75 left-hand fine-thread machine tap is a specialized tool for cutting internal left-hand threads with a reduced pitch of 0.75 mm in the common M6 diameter. Made of HSSE high-speed steel with 5% cobalt, it guarantees a hardness of 65-67 HRC and optimum tool life when machining difficult-to-machine materials. The M6x0.75 left-hand fine thread combines the advantages of a left-hand thread with fine-thread adjustment precision.

Main advantages of the Fra M6x0.75 left-hand machine tap

  • Manufacturer Fra as a specialist in special-purpose taps, guarantees high manufacturing quality and accurate nonstandard thread geometry
  • Left-hand thread direction (LH) used in components rotating clockwise, where a right-hand thread could loosen on its own
  • Fine thread with a 0.75 mm pitch provides higher adjustment precision and better resistance to self-loosening than the M6x1 coarse thread
  • HSSE steel with 5% cobalt ensures a hardness of 65-67 HRC and heat resistance up to 650°C, extending cutting edge life
  • The 6H tolerance in accordance with DIN 371 ensures thread accuracy and full interchangeability with fasteners
  • The recommended hole diameter of 5.2 mm for the M6x0.75 left-hand fine thread ensures optimum thread engagement

The Fra M6x0.75 left-hand machine tap is used in precision engineering, optics, adjustment mechanisms, and wherever a combination of a left-hand thread and a fine pitch is required. It is found in lenses, microscopes, and measuring instruments. Cooling with an oil emulsion at a concentration of 6-8% is recommended.

Frequently asked questions

The M6x0.75 left-hand thread is used in precision engineering, industrial optics, adjustment mechanisms, and wherever a combination of a left-hand thread and fine-thread precision is required.

The recommended tap drill diameter for the M6x0.75 left-hand fine thread is 5.2 mm — larger than for the M6 coarse thread (5 mm) due to the finer pitch.

Yes, the M6x0.75 left-hand thread requires bolts and nuts with a left-hand thread and a fine pitch. These components must be specially ordered from precision component suppliers.
