Where chips remain in a straight-flute tap
The flute holds the chips until the tap is reversed out
The straight flute runs parallel to the tap axis. There is no helix to carry chips upward. The chamfer cutting edges are not ground at an angle, so they do not push chips downward. Short chips break into fragments and remain in the flute, next to the cutting edges that produced them. They leave the hole only when the tap is backed out. The M6 x1 tap has a reduced shank to DIN 376: diameter 4.5 mm, square size 3.4 mm.
M6 INOX machine tap – versatile HSSE tool
The HSSE series with a long shank in accordance with DIN 376, designed for manufacturing engineers and CNC operators, includes the M6 INOX machine tap with increased rigidity. The 6H tolerance in accordance with DIN 376 guarantees the dimensional repeatability required in series production of mechanical components with demanding specifications. The long shank eliminates vibration at high spindle speeds on machining centers. Its HSSE steel construction with 5% cobalt guarantees a hardness of 66 HRC and long cutting edge life in stainless and difficult-to-machine steels.
Key features of the M6 tap for through and blind holes
- Long shank to DIN 376 provides increased clamping rigidity and eliminates vibration at high spindle speeds on CNC machines
- Designed for stainless steels of austenitic grades 304 and 316, structural steels up to 800 MPa, and aluminum alloys and engineering brass
- Precision of the 6H tolerance required in the manufacture of mechanical, electronic, and industrial automation components with stringent accuracy requirements
- Durability thanks to HSSE steel with 5% cobalt allows 400-600 threads to be produced in structural steel with proper lubrication using tapping oil
- Compatibility with ER16 holders and tapping heads for CNC machining centers with synchronous tapping and axial compensation
- Universal M6 machine tap with form C directs chips correctly in both through holes and blind holes without the risk of jamming
The M6 HSSE machine tap is designed for series production on CNC machining centers requiring stable operation at high speeds. The M6 machine tap for through and blind holes is not recommended for hardened steels above 45 HRC. The tap drill diameter is 5 mm.

Frequently asked questions
The M6 HSSE tap with form C and straight flutes is universal – suitable for both through holes and blind holes. Its design ensures proper chip evacuation in both hole types.
The M6 HSSE tap produces an internal thread to tolerance class 6H. The designation 6H specifies the permissible deviations of the thread pitch and minor diameters – the digit 6 indicates the tolerance zone width (medium), and the letter H indicates the position of the zone at the zero line. Tolerance 6H ensures proper fit with screws to tolerance 6g.
When tapping stainless steels, an EP emulsion at a minimum concentration of 8% or tapping oil is recommended for cooling. Cooling extends tool life by a factor of 2-3 and improves the thread surface finish.
