How the type B through-hole chamfer pushes chips down the hole
Chips exit at the bottom instead of returning through the thread
The form B chamfer for through holes has a chip breaker at the tip of the tap – an angled cut in the cutting edges. The chip breaker directs the chip down the hole, ahead of the tap tip. The chip curls into a coil, breaks into short pieces and exits the hole on the other side of the workpiece. The threads already cut remain clean because the chip does not pass through them on its way up. The M14x1 tap has a reduced shank according to DIN 374: diameter 11 mm, square size 9 mm.
M14x1 metric fine thread machine tap – HSSE for precision hydraulics
The M14x1 metric fine thread machine tap is a specialized tool for producing internal threads with an extremely fine pitch of 1 mm in the common M14 diameter used in precision hydraulics. Its HSSE high-speed steel construction with 5% cobalt guarantees a hardness of 65-67 HRC and optimal tool life when machining difficult-to-machine materials requiring the highest precision. The M14x1 metric fine thread is used in precision hydraulics and adjustment mechanisms where extremely precise position adjustment and high resistance to self-loosening are required. The tool is intended for professional toolrooms and precision equipment manufacturers.
Key advantages of the M14x1 metric fine thread machine tap
- Fine thread with a 1 mm pitch provides extremely precise position adjustment and 100% higher tensile strength than the M14x2 coarse thread, with excellent resistance to self-loosening
- Increased load-bearing area of the thread with a fine pitch provides excellent resistance to self-loosening under vibration and more uniform load distribution in the joint
- HSSE steel with 5% cobalt guarantees a hardness of 65-67 HRC and heat resistance up to 650°C, extending cutting edge life under intensive use
- Tolerance 6H according to DIN 374 ensures precise thread production and full interchangeability with fittings used in precision hydraulics
- Compatibility with ER20 and ER25 holders and tapping chucks with axial compensation for CNC machining centers with synchronous tapping capability
- The recommended tap drill diameter of 13 mm for the M14x1 metric fine thread ensures optimal thread engagement with minimal tool load
The M14x1 machine tap is used in precision hydraulics, industrial optics, adjustment mechanisms and wherever extremely precise position adjustment of mechanical components is required. Form B with straight flutes directs chips forward when tapping through holes. Cooling with an oil emulsion at a concentration of 6-8% is recommended to maintain optimal tool life.

Frequently asked questions
The M14x1 metric fine thread provides 100% higher tensile strength, extremely precise adjustment and excellent resistance to self-loosening, with a longer assembly time.
The recommended tap drill diameter for the M14x1 metric fine thread is 13 mm — larger than for the M14x2 coarse thread (12 mm) due to the finer pitch.
The M14x1 thread is used in precision hydraulics, industrial optics, adjustment mechanisms and wherever extremely precise position adjustment is required.
