Left-hand threaded joint components require dedicated tools with appropriate cutting geometry. M16 left-hand HSS die compliant with DIN 22 568 allows cutting of external M16x2 left-hand threads on rods made of structural steels, free-machining steels, and nonferrous metals. The threading process is identical to that with a standard die, except that the tool rotates in the opposite direction – counterclockwise. Lubrication and maintaining perpendicular alignment remain equally important.
The LH symbol appears on the tool surface next to the thread size designation. The reverse helix direction of the chip evacuation flutes can also be seen compared with the right-hand version.
