The threading technique for a left-hand die differs in the direction of rotation – turn counterclockwise instead of clockwise. Clamp a rod with a diameter of 10.85-10.90 mm in a vise and chamfer the end. Position the die perpendicular to the rod and turn it counterclockwise, making one forward turn followed by half a turn clockwise to break the chip. Apply plenty of threading lubricant. Beginners are advised to mark the direction of rotation on the die stock to avoid mistakes.
