Frequently asked questions
Prepare a stainless steel rod (diameter 13.7-13.75 mm) with a chamfer. Clamp it very securely; stainless steel requires rigid clamping because of its tendency to work-harden. Keep the die perpendicular, making one to two turns forward followed by half a turn backward. With Inox steel and a fine pitch, reverse very frequently: every 1-1.5 turns.
Specialized products for stainless steel, such as Terebor Inox, are absolutely mandatory, rather than ordinary machine oils. Stainless steel generates extreme temperatures and adheres to the tool without a suitable lubricant. Apply very generously before starting and every 1-2 turns. Never skimp on lubrication with stainless steel; it is essential for HSSE tool life.
Stainless steel adheres to the tool and work-hardens during machining. Causes: insufficient lubrication with an Inox product or an excessive working pace. Stop immediately, unscrew very carefully (the steel adheres strongly), and completely clean the flutes with a cleaning product. Resume with the most generous possible application of an Inox lubricant, very frequent reversing (every 1 turns), and a slower pace; stainless steel requires patience.
