Reducing the shank to a diameter of 12.7 mm (half an inch) allows direct use in standard holders without additional accessories. The reduced shank is an innovative solution to the problem of clamping large-diameter tools in machines with standard chucks. The smooth working surface achieved by polishing effectively dissipates heat generated during cutting, ensuring stable operation in high-volume production.
Frequently asked questions
The Ø28 mm HSS drill bit is intended for machining S235 and S355 structural steels with a hardness not exceeding 35 HRC, as well as gray cast iron, aluminum, and brass. We do not recommend use in heat-treated steels exceeding 35 HRC or in high-chromium stainless steel grades.
Dry drilling is theoretically possible, but we strongly advise against it. Using a coolant emulsion or cutting oil increases drill life by up to 60 percent and significantly improves hole dimensional accuracy and surface finish.
For S235 steel, we recommend setting the speed to 170-240 rpm, while for S355 steel the range is 125-185 rpm. Exceeding these parameters causes excessive temperature rise and accelerated loss of the tool's cutting performance.
