Ø22 mm reduced-shank HSS metal drill bit – a proven industrial tool
The industrial drill bit with a diameter of 22 mm and a reduced shank is a high-quality product made of high-speed steel (HSS) for machining metallic materials. The shank diameter of 12.7 mm allows immediate use in standard holders without additional adapters. The product is designed for demanding users: manufacturing plants, maintenance departments, and specialized metalworking shops.
Distinctive features of the Varel Ø22 mm drill bit
- Standard half-inch shank – immediate installation in drill presses and magnetic drills without intermediate sleeves
- IT11 accuracy grade compliant with ISO 286-1 – the resulting holes achieve a tolerance of ±105 µm, meeting the requirements of typical workshop applications
- Precision grinding technology – provides improved guidance during drilling and reduces resistance forces by one quarter
- Machining range up to 35 HRC – intended for S235 and S355 steel grades, cast iron, and aluminum and its alloys
- Varel brand tool – a renowned European manufacturer guaranteeing high manufacturing quality
Reduced-shank technology addresses the compatibility of different diameters with drilling machines. The smooth, polished working surface effectively dissipates heat during use, ensuring stable operation in series production and industrial repair applications.
Frequently asked questions
The drill bit performs effectively in S235 and S355 structural steels with a maximum hardness of 35 HRC, as well as gray cast iron, aluminum alloys, and brass. Use in steels hardened above 35 HRC and in austenitic steels is not recommended.
Using suitable cutting fluids is a key factor in extending tool life by up to 60 percent. It also lowers the temperature in the cutting zone, improving hole quality and dimensional accuracy.
For S235 materials, a speed of 200-280 rpm is suitable, while S355 steel requires 160-220 rpm. Excessive spindle speeds cause excessive heat buildup and rapid loss of the tool's cutting performance.
