Ø21 mm reduced-shank HSS metal drill bit – a tool for demanding applications
The tool with a diameter of Ø21 mm and a reduced shank belongs to the category of professional HSS drill bits designed for metalworking. The reduced shank measuring 12.7 mm allows quick clamping without specialized adapters. A solution developed for manufacturing plants, industrial service facilities, and professional machine shops.
Main advantages of the Varel 21 mm diameter drill bit
- Half-inch shank – fits directly into the chucks of stationary drilling machines and magnetic drills without reducers
- IT11 tolerance standard per ISO 286-1 – the resulting holes have a dimensional accuracy of ±105 µm, suitable for standard assembly applications
- Ground finish on the cutting surface – improves guidance stability and reduces drilling resistance by one quarter
- Efficient performance in steels with a hardness up to 35 HRC – versatile use in S235 and S355 steels, as well as gray cast iron and aluminum
- Varel brand with certified quality – a proven solution for industry
The reduced shank is a practical solution that eliminates the need for additional reduction sleeves. The polished surface prevents excessive tool heat buildup, ensuring reliability during extended hours of use in workshop environments.
Frequently asked questions
The tool is primarily intended for S235 and S355 structural steels not exceeding 35 HRC, as well as cast iron, aluminum, and brass. It must not be used in steels hardened above the stated hardness or in high-chromium grades.
Applying a cutting fluid during drilling significantly extends drill life, by up to 60 percent. It also improves the surface finish and dimensional accuracy of the resulting holes.
For machining S235 steel, we recommend a spindle speed of 210-290 rpm, and for S355, a range of 170-230 rpm. Excessive speed causes the drill bit to overheat and accelerates cutting edge dulling.
