Ø27 mm HSS reduced shank metal drill bit – an efficient solution for heavy industry
Specialized Ø27 mm drill bit made from HSS steel with a reduced shank is a tool developed for the most demanding industrial applications. The shank, reduced to a diameter of 12.7 mm (one-half inch), allows installation without specialized adapter sleeves. Intended for heavy manufacturing plants, industrial machinery service centers, and professional steel fabrication shops.
Technical advantages of the 27 mm diameter Varel drill bit
- Shank reduced to 1/2 inch – enables quick mounting in stationary drill presses and magnetic drills without intermediate components
- IT11 accuracy grade according to ISO 286-1 – holes with a dimensional tolerance of ±130 µm, meeting industrial assembly joint requirements
- Precision-ground surface – increases drilling stability and reduces cutting resistance by one-quarter of its initial value
- Machining materials up to 35 HRC – effective drilling in S235 and S355 structural steels, cast iron, and light alloys
- Certified Varel quality – European manufacturer of tools for the mechanical engineering industry
The reduced shank design eliminates difficulties in matching diameters to available workshop equipment. Polishing the working surface effectively dissipates heat from the cutting zone, enabling prolonged continuous operation typical of industrial production and emergency repairs.
Frequently asked questions
This tool is used to machine S235 and S355 structural steels with a maximum hardness of 35 HRC, as well as gray cast iron, aluminum, and brass. It should not be used for steels hardened above 35 HRC or for austenitic stainless steels.
Using suitable cooling and lubricating fluids is essential for drill bits with diameters above 20 mm. Proper cooling can extend drill life by up to 60 percent while also ensuring better dimensional accuracy and surface finish in the drilled holes.
For machining S235 steel, the recommended range is 175-245 rpm; for S355 steel, it is 130-190 rpm. Higher spindle speeds cause excessive heating and rapid cutting edge degradation, shortening tool life.
