Turning carbide inserts

Turned cuttinginserts are tools constructed from tungsten carbide. Carbide itself is characterized by very high hardness, wear resistance and high tolerance to high temperatures. The disadvantages of carbide are only its price and low tolerance to impact (impact or non-uniform turning). Carbide, as the name implies, is produced by sintering hard-to-melt metals in powder form. The composition of sintered carbide usually includes tungsten and titanium and the bonding metal is cobalt.

The properties of sintered carbide mean that it is only produced as the blade itself for brazed-plate lathe knives or folding lathe knives.

Applications of turning inserts in machining

Lathe inserts are used in all turning knives. They find their use in machining in virtually all materials but require selection for the material being turned. Because each manufacturer has its own individual designations for carbide grade and chipbreakers, it is best to consult the manufacturer's catalog when selecting an insert and cutting parameters. However, each manufacturer refers to ISO material designations, which is universal for each manufacturer. Turning inserts for stainless steel are marked with the color yellow and the letter M, for steel with the letter P and the color yellow, cast iron is red - the letter K, heat-resistant materials S - the color brown, hardened materials - the letter H - the color gray. Non-ferrous metals along with aluminum in the nomenclature have the letter N and the color green.

What kind of turning knife inserts we offer

Themulticutter turning inserts we offer come only from proven and reputable carbide manufacturers such as Baildonit, Sandvik, Iscar, Walter, Mitsubishi, Palbit and Korloy. With regard to the shape, turning inserts can be divided into triangular-shaped inserts such as TPUN - these are smooth inserts designed for turning knives with a separate chipbreaker, mainly used in Poland CTGPR type knife. The group of inserts without a chipbreaker also includes SPUN inserts with a square shape. Other inserts with the same shape are TNMG inserts, which are more widely used and have a chipbreaker built into their surface. Other turning inserts include CNMG, CCMT, SPUN, VBMT, VCMT and many others. Very popular inserts are WNMG used for roughing on MWLNR or PWLNR folding lathe knives.
